ICC World Cup 2011 : Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Preview

Two sub-continent nations where cricket is followed as the religion would clash today in the biggest cricket tournament i.e. World cup where Sri Lanka would be seeking its first win against the opponent and Pakistan would be looking to keep their winning form over Sri Lanka in the World Cup.

Both the teams have played and won their first game against the minnows as Pakistan beat Kenya convincingly by 205 runs, so did Sri Lanka against Canada after beating them by 210 runs. Pakistan has never lost a match against a Sri Lanka in the six World Cup matches they have played from 1975 to 1992.

Pakistan is expected to come on the field with an unchanged side, however there is a change expected in the Sri Lanka playing 11 and that is a major change as their premier bowler Lasith Malinga is set to make a come back after the healed injury. “ It’s time for us to change that I suppose. If we do the basic things right, we have a great chance,” Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara said.

“We know the importance of the match and I am confident that we are up to the Sri Lankan challenge, whether it’s Malinga or Muralitharan,” said Afridi. “In Sri Lankan conditions and pitches, Muralitharan is always very dangerous and he could probably turn the ball on a marble. He has so much experience, knows conditions well and that’s why he is the best,” said Afridi.

Apart from the fans of Sri Lanka and Pakistan teams, the followers of cricket from different parts of the world are also looking for this great contest. This match would also be important for Indian Team as if they go through the next round, coach Kirsten would be required to take down some important points and draft a plan to beat the either side in the next round of games.
