Acquisition of Netaji Nagar land gets green nod
The controversial acquisition of the Netaji Nagar land was given a green signal by Suburban District Collector Nirmal Deshmukh here on Wednesday. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was trying to acquire the plot where 64 tenants have occupied flats in two buildings.
The Netaji Nagar land has been one of the most crucial reasons for the delay of Santacruz Chembur link road (SCLR). The SCLR would be a link between the west and the east. The collector has given his approval and processed the file further.
However the residents are not satisfied with this move and are demanding transparency in the entire process. The Bombay High court had issued a stay on the land on 25 January 2010. The collector has violated that order and we would be filing a petition of contempt of court against the MMRDA, district collector and the urban development department," said Raj Awasthi, a social activist. The suburban collector was not available for comment despite repetitive attempts.
The residents have been rejecting the offers provided by the MMRDA. The planning authority has offered to give them 485 sq ft subjected to the Urban Development department's nod. They have also agreed to give the tenants rent for 36 months starting from Rs 10,000 and increase it by Rs 1,000 every year.

We are PAP’s under SCLR Project & we are not against the SCLR Project. Nobody has opposed the development . MMRDA had never given clear picture to Netaji Nagar PAP's since SCLR project begun in 2004 .These are buildings which were built by MHADA (erstwhile Mumbai Housing Board) and all the legal outgoings are being paid timely to respective authorities more than 40Years .Also conveyance from MHADA after paying Lacks of rupees to MHADA & paying all government taxes regularly to govt. MMRDA offering tenement to Netaji Nagar where a slum Rehabilitation Authority ( SRA) project was being constructed . MMRDA officers interested to complete Project but they are not Interested to solve the problem of Netaji Nagar PAP’s. We never hold SCLR to ransom. We always requested MMRDA to rehabilitate to us in same manner as SCLR PAP’s Tilak Nagar MHADA colony offered.
Initially MMRDA offered us 360 sq feet tenement (180sq feet x 2 nos) permanent accommodation at Sahkar nagar (Transit camp) chembur build by MHADA, but this site has been already occupied by some other tenants of Mhada. The MMRDA has also offered us locations like Motilal Nagar in Bandra Kurla Complex, Bhakti Park, Nahur, Mulund and Goregaon . Some locations are near slums, or some are too far away from the railway station & all where a slum Rehabilitation Authority ( SRA) project was being constructed. On July 14, the Bombay High Court ordered the MMRA to give in writing the exact details of the R & R plan that was being offered to Netai Nagar Paps, because the Netaji Nagar residents had filed a petition in HC against MMRDA for failing to furnish detail about the plan. On basis of the HC ordered they offered tenement in the Bharat Nagar which also not ready position where a slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project was being constructed by HDIL .We initially refused to accept the same but we will ready to move if MMRDA will agree to caved out separate plot from SRA project to us duly approved by UDD/Housing Department /SRA & gave us separate slot which was called as private property of our society & also gave us assurance because proposed Bharat Nagar plot still occupied by slum dwellers since 1985 . Now MMRDA had sent us legal notice under section 32 of MMRDA act to acquire our tenements It seems MMRDA officials are putting the facts partially in front of media and painting the image of Netaji Nagar as `KHALNAYAK' in the way of development. Nobody can oppose to the development but it should not cost the shelter of the residents who are staying in Netaji Nagar for as long as 45 years.
MMRDA has denied Netaji Nagar residents 'right of allotting ownership houses. Can You shift your own houses in similar circumstances ?
